Pregnancy Calculator
How this Pregnancy Calculator Works
This pregnancy calculator primarily uses the common Naegele's rule as its calculation method. This rule starts from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP) and adds 280 days (equivalent to 40 weeks of gestation or pregnancy duration). This provides an estimated due date (EDD).
For a more precise due date estimation, especially if your cycle length differs from the standard 28 days, the calculator allows you to enter your average cycle length. This adjusts the calculation accordingly. Remember, the gestational week (GW or SSW) is always counted from the LMP.
Accuracy Note: Important Note: The calculator provides an estimate. The actual conception date and your baby's individual development can vary, influencing the actual delivery date. Factors like irregular cycles can affect accuracy. Accurate dating often relies on ultrasound scans performed by your doctor.
Understanding Your Pregnancy Calculation
Estimated Conception Date
Besides the due date, the calculator also estimates the likely conception date. This is typically around 14 days after the LMP in a 28-day cycle, often correlating with ovulation. This tool adjusts this based on your provided cycle length.
What Does Gestational Week (GW / SSW) Mean?
Gestational Week (GW), often abbreviated as SSW in German (Schwangerschaftswoche), indicates how far along the pregnancy is. Week 1 starts on the first day of your last period, even though conception likely happens about two weeks later. A full-term pregnancy lasts about 40 weeks.
Pregnancy Trimesters
A pregnancy is typically divided into three trimesters, each marking different stages of fetal development. The calculator shows your current trimester: 1st Trimester (Week 1-13), 2nd Trimester (Week 14-27), and 3rd Trimester (Week 28 until birth).
Always Consult Your Healthcare Provider
While this calculator is a helpful tool for estimating dates, it doesn't replace professional medical advice. Discuss the results and your pregnancy progress with your doctor or midwife. They can provide accurate information through check-ups and ultrasounds, monitor your baby's development, and guide you through your pregnancy journey, including topics like maternity protection (Mutterschutz).
